Brasília (Portuguese pronunciation: [bɾaˈziljɐ]) is the federal
capital of Brazil and the seat of government of
the Federal District. The city is located
along the Brazilian Highlands in the country's Central-West region. It was
founded on April 21, 1960, to serve as the new national capital. Brasília,
easily the fastest growing major city in the country, had an estimated
population of 2,852,372 in 2014, just 50,000 residents shy of Salvador, placing
it as the 4th most populous city in
